Porto yacht charters are fully crewed private boat rentals on the Douro River and the Atlantic coast of Portugal, departing from the Douro Marina, giving your group a unique view of the historic city, its famous wine cellars, and the dramatic Portuguese coastline.
From the Douro Marina a yacht cruises the river past the port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, under the landmark Dom Luis I Bridge, and along the UNESCO listed Ribeira waterfront, then out past Foz do Douro where the river meets the Atlantic, with the city beaches nearby. The fleet ranges from 30 foot boats to motor and sailing yachts of 80 feet and more, hosting 2 to 25 guests, with durations from 2 hour cruises to full day voyages. Every charter includes a licensed captain, professional crew, fuel, and all the comforts for a day on the water. The season runs from roughly April through October, with warm, bright summer days ideal for cruising. Guests arrive through Porto Airport (OPO), a short drive from the marina. We recommend booking early, as the finest yachts and prime summer dates reserve well in advance.

There is such a lot to do in the city of Porto, that many people hardly ever think about a beach. But Porto is on the coast and is home to several sandy beaches that are worth a visit.
Porto beaches may not be expanses of beautiful white sand that we dream of but, they are certainly worth a visit, especially since the beaches tend to be surrounded by other exciting places to visit.
Ponta da Piedade
Praia do Camilo
Praia de Bordeira
Praia de Marinha
Praia de Benagil sea caves
This beach is a sandy beach with some rocky sections. It is located in the trendy Foz do Douro district. This area is the place to be seen promenading and enjoying the café culture. The cafes here open late and long after dark it is alive. With an oil refinery just up the coast and the river spewing out debris into the sea, it is not a classic swimming beach, but more of a social center.
Praia do Carneiro is the closest beach to the mouth of the river Duoro, and the breakwater on the beach marks the entrance to the river. The beach is overlooked by the historic “Fortaleza de São João da Foz,” which is a magnificent sixteenth-century structure that was placed there to defend the entrance to the estuary. I include this beach because of its convenient location, but there are better beaches further along the Foz.
Matosinhos beach is the main Porto beach. It has a long stretch of fine sand, and in the summer there are always beach activities. It also has a lifeguard, so swimming here is probably safer, if not up to blue flag standards. It is also a favorite spot for surfing. The beach area is home to some great restaurants.

Porto is one of Europe's most genuinely charming cities, a riverside port town where medieval bridges span a deep gorge, wine lodges line the opposite bank in Vila Nova de Gaia, and a UNESCO-listed historic center rises above the Douro River in a cascade of orange tile rooftops. Experiencing it from the water is the most beautiful perspective possible.
Day Yacht Charters arranges private boat charters in Porto operating on the Douro River and the Atlantic coast just west of the city. River charters depart from the Ribeira waterfront, the historic quayside at the foot of the old city, and cruise upstream through the distinctive six-bridge skyline that defines Porto from the water. Sunset departures are particularly spectacular as the light reflects off the ribeira buildings.
The Douro River continues east from Porto into the heart of the Douro Valley wine country, and multi-day river cruises allow guests to reach the ancient terraced vineyards that have produced port wine for over 300 years. Stopping at the quinta estates along the river for wine tastings with the vineyard owners is an experience that combines gastronomy, history, and extraordinary scenery.
West of Porto toward the Atlantic, the river opens at Foz do Douro, where the freshwater meets the cold Atlantic Ocean. Atlantic coast charters heading north from Foz reach the dramatic rocky coast of the Costa Verde, with wild surf beaches, headlands, and small fishing villages that see almost no tourist boat traffic.
The Porto charter season runs May through September when Atlantic conditions are most manageable. The Douro River is navigable year-round. Contact us to discuss available vessels and build your Porto itinerary.
Porto yacht charters depart from the Douro Marina, reached through Porto Airport (OPO), also known as Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport, with direct flights from across Europe. From the airport the marina and the historic city center are a short drive. We can help coordinate your arrival and transfers to the marina. Call +1 (305) 515-4735 to plan your charter.
Most Porto charters depart from the Douro Marina, set on the river at Vila Nova de Gaia near the historic wine cellars, with full marine services, and from marinas near the river mouth at Foz do Douro. From the Douro Marina a yacht cruises the river through the heart of the city and out to the Atlantic within a short, scenic cruise. The central riverside location makes it a natural base for a Porto charter. Contact us at +1 (305) 515-4735.
A Porto charter offers a unique view of one of Europe's most atmospheric cities. Highlights include the port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the landmark Dom Luis I Bridge, the colorful UNESCO listed Ribeira waterfront, and Foz do Douro where the river meets the Atlantic, with the city beaches and dramatic coastline beyond. Upriver, the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley await longer voyages. Your captain designs the route around the river, the city, and the coast you most want to experience.
Porto is a wonderful charter destination from spring through autumn, with warm, bright summer days and calm river cruising. The season runs from roughly April through October, with the warmest, sunniest weather in summer and beautiful light in the shoulder months. River cruises along the wine cellars and the Ribeira are spectacular throughout the season. We recommend booking early to secure the finest yachts and prime summer dates. Call +1 (305) 515-4735.
A standard Porto charter includes the vessel, fuel for the planned itinerary, a licensed captain, professional crew, all safety equipment, basic provisions such as water and soft drinks, and tender service. Group sizes range from 2 to 25 guests depending on the vessel. Smaller motor and sailing yachts from 30 to 50 feet are ideal for couples and intimate groups, mid size yachts and catamarans from 50 to 70 feet suit groups of 12 to 18 for day charters and celebrations, and larger crewed yachts handle up to 25 guests for group events. The sweet spot for most Porto charters is 6 to 12 guests. Tell us your group size and we will recommend the ideal yacht. Contact us at +1 (305) 515-4735.
A Porto charter is unique for combining a historic river cruise with the open Atlantic. The Douro River winds through the heart of the city past the famous port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, under the Dom Luis I Bridge, and along the Ribeira waterfront, then opens to the Atlantic at Foz do Douro. Longer voyages can head upriver toward the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley. Your captain tailors the cruise to your interests. Contact us at +1 (305) 515-4735.
We offer a full range of durations. A 2 to 3 hour river cruise takes in the wine cellars, the bridges, and the Ribeira waterfront, ideal for an afternoon or sunset. A half day charter of about 4 hours adds the run out to Foz do Douro and the Atlantic, while a full day charter of 6 to 8 hours explores the coast or heads upriver at a relaxed pace, with refreshments on board. We tailor the duration to your group. Contact us at +1 (305) 515-4735.
Yes. All charters include water and soft drinks as standard, and we offer flexible catering packages. A private chef can prepare fresh regional cuisine on board, alongside premium and standard open bar options, or you may bring your own beverages. Most international visitors, including travelers from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, need a valid passport to visit Portugal, and many nationalities can enter visa free for tourism for up to 90 days within the Schengen Area. The euro is the local currency, and Portuguese is the official language, with English widely spoken in tourist and marina areas. We recommend a passport valid for the length of your stay, and our team can advise on current entry requirements when you book. Contact us at +1 (305) 515-4735.

Porto
Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal and has everything that you might want on vacation. The city is located on the estuary of the Douro river in Northern Portugal. The “Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar” were proclaimed to be a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996. Port wine, one of the exports that Portugal is known for, is named after Porto as this was the urban area where it was packaged and distributed from.
The city of Porto was chosen as the “Best European destination” in both 2014 and 2017. And of course for football fans, the city is home to one of the country’s top clubs. (FC Porto).
Over recent years there has been a significant increase in tourism. As of February 2019, over 10% of city income was from tourism. Porto is one of the fastest-growing European destinations for city breaks.
Lago Grande Waterways (the Grand Lake)
The Grande Lago water is probably the cleanest clear cruising water you will find anywhere in Europe. It is somewhere that you can cruise all year round. As a cruising destination, it features some genuinely unforgettable scenery with several small islets that actually are the peaks of hills that were drowned when the lake was created.
The lake offers 300 days of sunshine every year, all just perfect for cruising on one of the boats that are available in this boating paradise. If fishing is your thing, you can relax on the deck of your boat and catch black bass and carp.

Douro Marina:
Douro Boat Rental
The Douro is one of the most significant rivers on the Iberian Peninsula. The river has its source in Spain and flows to Porto in Portugal. It is the third-longest river in the Iberian Peninsula (following the Tagus and Ebru). The Douro meets the sea at Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage site (the center), because of its architecture and historical significance.
In recent years a popular tourist industry has been built around the Douro river. There are five dams on the Douro within Portugal, and they have been constructed in a way that allows navigation. Boats with a maximum length of 272 ft can pass through all five dams. The highest lock has a maximum lift of 115 feet (Carrapatelo Dam).
Surrounding the river Douro is the Portuguese wine region that carries the same name. This region is associated mainly with Port Wine, but in reality, it also produces the same amount of table wine.
The Douro region is sheltered from the strong Atlantic winds and is a pleasant place to enjoy a boating vacation.
